About TBS

How We Started
In 1960, Nancy and Marshall Benjamin, two teachers from Michigan, acquired a three-car garage in North Palm Beach, swept out its dirt floors, bought some rudimentary furnishings and founded what they called the North Palm Beach Private School.  As forward-thinking educators, the Benjamins started a kindergarten whose curriculum featured foreign language, science, music and physical education, but most importantly, reading.  According to the Benjamins, a love of books and the ability to read meant children could educate themselves for life. The couple demonstrated a kindness and courtesy that made their school feel like family.  As their success brought demands for another grade, then another, the Benjamins paved their growing campus with winding paths, so as not to cut down trees.

Stories Beneath the Tree
Marshall Benjamin passed away in 1985, but Mrs. Benjamin remains a vital presence on our campus and at school events.  She often gathers our youngest learners beneath one of her favorite trees to engage the children in her and her husband's passion - reading.

Who We Are Today
Every day, some 1,500 talented individuals - more than 1,300 of them students - come to learn, teach and work at The Benjamin School.  We are a coeducational, non-sectarian, college-preparatory, independent school enrolling students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. We seek talented children from all backgrounds in the belief that our differences foster strength and wisdom. We also seek a diverse and dynamic faculty who exhibit a contagious love of learning.

Where We Are
After years of continued growth, Benjamin became a two-campus school in 2004. Pre-K through 8th grade are located on our original site between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway in North Palm Beach, Florida.  Our Upper School is located on Grandiflora Road off Central Blvd. in Palm Beach Gardens.  (Click here for directions to our school.)

Extraordinary Facilities
Each campus has a distinct atmosphere, supportive of the developmental stages of its learners. At the lower and middle school campus, 15 pastoral acres are home to many one-story buildings joined by winding walkways through clusters of trees and play structures.  Amenities include playing fields, a gymnasium, a newly-constructed performing arts center, a fine arts building, a library, and the school store.

The Upper School is a 50-acre, state-of-the-art, wireless, campus featuring a science and visual arts building comprised of five enhanced-technology science labs as well as a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional art studio and dark room. In addition, there is a library, an athletic complex, five playing fields (one of them under night lights), nine tennis courts, as well as plenty of green space and a lake for students and faculty to enjoy during breaks in their day.
