"I will maintain my self-respect. I will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate anyone who does."

A special assembly affirming The Benjamin School Honor Code convened September 9 in the Barker Performing Arts Center for the middle school student body at the annual ceremony hosted by the division's Student Services Department.

Head of Middle School Charles Hagy welcomed professionally attired sixth, seventh and eighth graders to the afternoon program following the singing of the alma mater by the division's chorus. "Our Honor Code represents what it is to live a life of honor - a life demonstrating respect, courage, forgiveness and honesty," said Hagy who addressed the audience.

Middle school faculty keynote speaker Nick Crisafi shared heartfelt life experiences with the student body to convey the value of conducting a life honorably. Eighth grader student council members led students in reciting the Honor Code.

Faculty then joined the lines of students at their designated grade level tables graced with softly lit candles and fresh floral bouquets. All affixed their signatures on the pages of the Honor Code books while the gentle sounds of piano music performed by middle school musicians resonated throughout the Barker Performing Arts Center.

"These signatures indicate our students understand the Honor Code and will strive to live by its tenets," explained Director of Student Services (PK3 through 8) Susan Poncy. "Our students have pledged to behave honorably academically, artistically and athletically, and to treat their fellow students and teachers with honor and respect at all times."
