Welcome to The Parents of Alumni Association

by David Craven P ‘20, PoAA Steering Committee Chair
Dear Parents of Alumni,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our inaugural digital newsletter as we kick off a new group at The Benjamin School: The Parents of Alumni Association, or PoAA. If you are wondering how to join this group, no need to worry. Any parent with a TBS graduate is an automatic member!

Like many of you, we are thankful for what the School has done for our children. Thanks to her TBS education, my daughter Bella was prepared to enter the rigors of academia at Wake Forest University and is poised to conquer all challenges that lay ahead in the post-graduate world. As the parent of a 14-year-club member, I was there every step of the way attending events like the lower school olympics and senior lake jump, rooting our students on at artistic and athletic events, or volunteering to serve BUC Pizza. But eventually, that frenetic pace of life with a TBS student comes to an end at graduation. For many of us, it’s a big void compounded by our kids “fleeing the coop.”

Over the years, so many of you have told us you wanted to stay involved with Benjamin, but felt it was no longer your place or time. I am here to tell you, this is your time again! The goal of our new group is simple: to help parents of alumni remain connected to TBS, and one another, following the graduation of their child(ren). I hope you attend our PoAA launch event January 24 at Benjamin Hall and reconnect with parents from your child’s class.

Our steering committee of passionate volunteers, led by Alumni Relations Associate Leigh Seirafi, have put together a line-up of activities that enrich and engage like our upcoming Lifelong Learning Series, an exclusive PoAA event. Through our new Facebook page and this newsletter, which features relevant stories and updates on the latest events including campus volunteer opportunities, we promise to keep you informed about all the opportunities to reconnect with your Buccaneer pride!

Go Bucs,
