Standing Room Only At Lower School Strings Concert

Marti Lotman
Lower School strings students performed in the Barker Center for an exciting evening of music on Wednesday night. Family and friends of students in grades 1 through 5 packed the Barker Center for the musical celebration. Guests were welcomed aboard the "Holiday Express" by a student conductor, who let attendees know their first "stop" would be to pick up the first graders.

The first grade students began their performance with a rendition of "Hot Cross Buns" that included both singing and violin playing. After two additional songs, the conductor told guests their next stop would be our second grade performers, and so on. The fifth grade strings students closed out the program with a beautiful rendition of Jingle Bells.

Head of Lower School Kristen Sheehan said she’s never seen such a packed house in all the years the strings program has existed. Art teacher Ro Sammis praised the performance, saying the program was a wonderful way to ring in the holiday for all of our Benjamin families. Belen Clifford, director of the Strings program, said she was thrilled with the way the children performed and encouraged by the support of the parents and the administration.

“I want to congratulate all of the students on their hard work and beautiful playing and I look forward to watching them continue to grow in their ability to express themselves through music,” said Clifford.
