Lower School Mandarin Students Celebrate Chinese New Year

Lower School Mandarin Chinese students helped bring in the Chinese New Year with a colorful morning assembly in The Barker Center. The festival was an entertaining and informative program about the “Year of the Rooster,” presented to the Benjamin lower school.

Mandarin students in first through fifth grade took to the stage on January 27 to sing popular Chinese songs and explain the 12 year Chinese zodiac cycle.

"My students were so proud to demonstrate what they have learned concerning the Chinese language and culture in front of a live audience. That experience is so important to enhance their study of Chinese. Since the Chinese New Year coincides with the lineup we presented this morning, the kids were very excited to present information concerning the Chinese New Year," Chincese teacher Lucy Wei said of the celebration. Head of Lower School Kristen Sheehan said she's excited about all of the experiences Benjamin students are being exposed to through the Mandarin Chinese program.

"The Chinese New Year presentation at line up demonstrated the enthusiasm of the students for the program as well as their growing language proficiency," Sheehan said.
