Search Committee Update 9/5/19

September 5, 2019

Dear Members of the Benjamin Community,

We are excited to share with you the progress of the Head of School Search Committee. Carney, Sandoe and Associates identified a pool of nearly ninety candidates presenting twenty-five to the Committee to be considered for the semi-finalist round.  The Committee selected twelve semi-finalist candidates to visit the Committee in Palm Beach Gardens for an intensive series of interviews over three days. We were incredibly encouraged by the pool of committed, energized, and experienced education professionals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and different parts of the country. After thoughtful discussion, the Committee selected three candidates to come to The Benjamin School as finalists.

During the upcoming finalist visits, each candidate will participate in a comprehensive 2-day series of interviews and discussions with the Benjamin community similar to the process followed with the interim search. This is an opportunity for our community to learn more about each of the finalists and, just as important, for each finalist to learn more about us. Each candidate will hold one-on-one and group meetings with our senior administrators, Board of Trustees, students, faculty, and staff. Each visit will also include a series of open forums, two for our faculty and staff, and one for our parents, to ensure that as many members of our community as possible have the opportunity to connect with our finalists. As reminded by our consultants, attractive candidates have choices, and they will be selecting us just as much as we select them. This visit is an opportunity for us to showcase our school to each candidate and why it is such a special place.

First Finalist Visit: Friday, September 13
Parent Forum: 9:15am – Didsbury Learning Commons, Upper School
Second Finalist Visit: Tuesday, September 17
Parent Forum: 2:00pm – Barker Center, Lower/Middle School
Third Finalist Visit: Friday, September 20
Parent Forum: 9:15am – Didsbury Learning Commons, Upper School

We will send out the finalist’s name and background information a few days before each visit.

Immediately following each candidate visit, we will request your feedback, via an online survey. We hope you will take that opportunity to share your thoughts and impressions with us. The search committee will include your input in our final deliberations as we prepare to make our recommendation.

After all three finalists have completed their visits, and the search committee has reviewed the feedback we have gathered from community survey responses and reference calls, we will make our recommendation to the Board of Trustees, who will vote to determine who will be the next leader of The Benjamin School. Our goal is to complete the search and be able to introduce our new Head of School by the end of October.

This is an exciting time for our school and we look forward to welcoming our finalists and showing them what a special and meaningful place The Benjamin School is to all of us.

Sincerely,

Jill Fried and Kelly Perkins
