Past & Future

How We Started

In 1960, Nancy and Marshall Benjamin, two teachers from Michigan, acquired a three-car garage in North Palm Beach, swept out its dirt floors, bought some rudimentary furnishings and founded what they called the North Palm Beach Private School.  As forward-thinking educators, the Benjamins started a kindergarten whose curriculum featured foreign language, science, music and physical education, but most importantly, reading.  According to the Benjamins, a love of books and the ability to read meant children could educate themselves for life. The couple demonstrated a kindness and courtesy that made their school feel like family.

Upward Expansion

Multiplying enrollment, expansive course offerings, and emerging arts and athletic programs for The Benjamin School’s students in grades PK3 through 12 called for new and renovated facilities. The Benjamins paved their growing campus with winding paths, so as not to cut down trees.
The dawn of the 21st century unleashed a rousing era of campus transformation for The Benjamin School. Less than six miles north of the tranquil setting where Marshall and Nancy Benjamin built their humble little school 43 years earlier, the school broke ground on new land in Palm Beach Gardens. The sprawling Upper School campus provides state-of-the-art facilities for students in grades 9 through 12.

Spreading Wings

Motivated by their own unique curiosities and empowered by a dynamic school house, Benjamin students are prepared for a new world. With nearly 60 years of history and more than 3000 alumni pursuing their passions around the globe, The Benjamin School today is ever-evolving.

In the fall of 2019, our Lower/Middle School campus debuted a 2-story, 13,000 square foot Maglio Family STEM Center where students as young as 3-years-old explore, build and study collaboratively in a state-of-the-art facility. In our Upper School, in addition to a new world-class 850 seat performing arts center, we have updated the traditional library with the Didsbury Learning Commons. This new space, which includes a virtual reality lab, a glass cube conference room where students can write on the walls, and a cafe, transforms the library’s role on campus from a provider of information to a facilitator of learning.
