Overview
By 8:00 a.m. on class day, Middle School teachers will post learning goals, readings, assignments, and activities to BucLinks in a class Topics Page labeled by date, time of class, and course name.  A Weekly Plan will also be presented during the first weekly class session. In coordination with BucLinks, teachers will present material via a Zoom Video Conference and/or a class Google Doc during the allotted class time. Real-time class sessions can be conducted through Zoom to conference for up to 100 students at a time and can be recorded and posted for future use and review. Students will log into Zoom through their individual class pages on BucLinks. Each teacher will post their specific Zoom link to their Topics page. If prompted, students will enter their first and last name for attendance.

Online Class Schedule
The schedule, posted below, has been modified to make the school day as manageable as possible for middle school students. Courses will meet in two-hour blocks to allow plenty of time for teacher instruction, question/answer, discussion, classwork, and student presentations. English and Social Studies classes will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays while Math and Science will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. World Language classes will meet each day, Monday-Thursday for one hour. Elective Teachers will develop and post enrichment activities for students to complete in the afternoons and evenings.

Office Hours
Fridays are devoted to “Office Hours” for questions and/or extra help via Zoom. Teachers will also be available for questions and extra help via email during normal school hours Monday-Friday.

Student Supplies
Students will need their laptops, and will receive instruction in linking to the Zoom platform. They will also need any texts and standard school supplies normally used on campus. In addition, we highly recommend a headset and microphone to make hearing and speaking much clearer in a digital-learning realm. The headphones used by any student in World Languages will be perfect; if you are not taking a World Languages class, please click here to see the headset we recommend. If you cannot get one, you may be able to use Airpods, although they are less reliable in this learning environment.

Attendance
Daily class attendance will be taken by the teacher. This can be done in video conferences by having students log in at the appropriate class time or in Google Docs by having students sign in on an attendance sheet.

Parents/Guardians

Please consider the following to best support your student while learning at home:
  • Establish a daily routine for engaging in learning activities.
  • Encourage your child to monitor school email and BucLinks for daily communications.
  • Engage your child in dialogue about learning.
  • Please reach out to teachers, advisors, and administrators with suggestions or for help.
  • Follow the class protocol for reporting absences due to illness.
  • Establish times for your child to turn off screens. Encourage physical activity.

Instructions for the Student

  • Before class begins, please remember that we must all follow the School's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), Handbook Policies, Honor Code, as well as our classroom expectations at all times.
  • Please complete the account set-up and orientation process before leaving school. Be sure you enter your first and last name for attendance during the set-up process.
  • Establish a daily routine for your school work.
  • Find a comfortable, distraction-free room in the house to work, preferably not the bedroom. Sit in a seat that is on camera so that your instructor can see you.
  • Dress Code:  TBS uniform polo shirt must be in view.
  • Be on time for class. Your teacher will take class attendance/tardies for School records.
  • Attendance is expected. If for any reason you miss class, it is your responsibility to make up the work.
  • Please do not leave class before the teacher closes the session.
  • Engage in class following the instructions given by the teacher.
  • Log into BucLinks for class, go to Topics, and navigate to Zoom (or a Google Doc) to join the session.
  • Notify the Technology Help Desk for help with technical issues.
  • Perform tasks as outlined by your teacher.
  • Follow the teacher’s instructions to communicate or ask questions. Seek clarification when needed. This will be accomplished through the chat window or if your microphone is unmuted by your teacher.
  • Your teacher will respond to questions during class time or at a later point in the school day.
  • Follow your teacher’s directions to turn in classwork.  Put forth your best effort, as these grades will “count.”
  • Please be respectful to your teacher and classmates.  Behavioral concerns will be addressed by the School.
  • Understand that all class Sessions are recorded and microphones may be “live” at all times.
  • Classes will follow the schedule posted below.
  • Office Hours for questions and/or extra help are scheduled for Friday.
  • Check your email and BucLinks daily for assignments and feedback from teachers.
  • Between classes, email teachers with questions. Please do not ask your teacher to text or call you.
