Dear Benjamin Families,
This week has been full of energy as our teachers prepare to welcome students to our official first day of school, August 18. Our Lower School will open their physical classrooms and offer both on-campus and remote instruction next week, and our Middle and Upper Schools will begin the year remotely.
We are optimistic about local trends and projections, and as of today, we have a goal to open the Middle and Upper School campuses on August 31. This plan, like all others related to the pandemic, is fluid.
We are dependent on everyone in our community to follow best practices, both at school and at home, to maintain a safe and healthy campus. As we embark upon this unique school year, I want to underscore that despite our best efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, there will potentially be periods of school closure after our campuses open.
I know that many of you are wondering what will trigger a classroom, grade, or campus to switch to an entirely remote program. Classrooms and campuses will remain open as long as the suspected infection rate in that classroom or division is lower than the positivity rate in Palm Beach County. The School will work with the Department of Health and Medical Directors to undertake an assessment through contact tracing to determine any potential exposure that would warrant a grade-level or campus-wide closure. There may be other scenarios in which the administration believes that a pivot to remote learning is essential for the health and safety of our community. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to refine their guidelines which will impact our response to known and potential exposure within our campus community.
Due to privacy laws and HIPAA protections, known exposure to COVID-19 will be communicated only to those who have been identified through contact tracing and to a limited number of school administrators.
I want to thank you for your commitment to TBS during an unprecedented year. Together, we are forging a path to carry out the School’s mission in new ways.
I am looking forward to seeing our students virtually and in-person on opening day!
