Messages From The Head of School

From the Head of School July 15, 2020

Dear Benjamin School Community,

It is with real excitement that I write this first welcome letter to you; it is an honor to serve as the next Head of The Benjamin School. This year, we will commemorate the School's 60th anniversary, and as is true for any great milestone, there is much to celebrate about our past and our future; I cannot wait to get started. My wife, Holly, and I met the moving truck at our new home in Palm Beach Gardens on June 30, and we were greeted by a host of Benjamin folks who helped us get settled in. We are grateful for the many warm welcomes we have received from the community in the past few weeks - thank you!

These are extraordinary times, like none I have ever seen, and as I start my 40th year in independent schools I had thought I had seen it all. I have observed the way that students, faculty, and parents have adjusted and adapted over the last few months, and I am overwhelmed by the resiliency of this community. I have been learning as much as I can about Benjamin, and I have found great hope in the School's commitment to the 12 Benjamin Values. I think if we can live by these attributes (especially compassion, courage, acceptance, perseverance, and responsibility) we will be better prepared to deal with this worldwide pandemic.

I will be spending much of the summer and fall watching, listening, and participating in the daily life of The Benjamin School. I am meeting with as many members of the community as time will permit including parents, past parents, students, alumni, trustees, and friends of the school. I will welcome visitors to my office when it is safe to do so, but if you would like to introduce yourself in the meantime, please contact Jeri Cole at 561.472.3405 to arrange a phone call or Zoom. I look forward to learning first hand what makes The Benjamin School the remarkable place it is, and your stories and experiences are one way to make that happen. I will also be working on the School’s strategic plan which provides us with a road map for our immediate future. Lastly, I am committed to protecting and preserving the School’s mission: The mission of The Benjamin School is to provide a challenging college preparatory education to a diverse student body in a structured, nurturing community environment. The School motivates students to master the skills of learning, communicating and evaluating choices, and encourages them to grow intellectually, socially, morally, aesthetically, and physically to their fullest individual potential. Benjamin inspires its students to develop a coherent set of values that includes love of learning, personal responsibility, self-motivation, concern for others and a commitment to serve society.”

Looking forward to having the opportunity to say hello and to introduce myself to you in the coming year.

Be well - Go Bucs!
