Middle School Hosts Annual Friendship Games

The Benjamin eighth grade class hosted the annual Friendship Games on January 25. Students in exceptional education programs throughout the county are invited to Benjamin to enjoy the field day event. The program, offered in collaboration with the Special Olympics, features track and field races, dance parties, ball tosses and games.

The heartwarming day, coordinated by Middle School English teacher Kathleen Devine, included a ceremonial “opening lap” around Reback Track. Benjamin students cheered on their guests as they travelled around the track and the games commenced.

Devine says the service project began 17 years ago with only 60 participants. This year’s event drew more than 200 students from local schools.
