Divisions 'Capture The Moment' During Grandest Friends Week
Benjamin Lower, Middle, and Upper School students “captured the moment” as they honored their grandparents and grandest friends the week of March 11.
The annual event came in the immediate wake of Head of School Robert Goldberg’s passing, but Head of Middle School Chuck Hagy said it was important to carry on, as the event was Mr. Goldberg’s favorite.
“The theme of this year’s event, ‘capturing the moment,’ was so appropriate. Mr. Goldberg would talk about the memories and the connections that he had with people and how much he enjoyed those moments he could spend with them. It’s so imperative that we nurture our relationships with our grandparents and grandest friends because sometimes you have to look back in order to move forward. We look back to Marshall and Nancy Benjamin and now we look back to Mr. Goldberg as being huge influences in our past,” said Hagy.
Students in the lower school spent time with their grandest friends in their respective classrooms, while middle school students showcased their Monuments Projects that detailed people and places from the Holocaust.
Each division and their friends then travelled to the gym where they enjoyed a brunch hosted by the Benjamin Parents’ Association. Parent Alissa Ferry and a dedicated team of volunteers welcomed the campus visitors. Guests of lower and middle school students were greeted by professional photographers who snapped pictures of them with their Benjamin student. The pairs then enjoyed decorating frames that held the newly minted pictures.
"It was a privilege to oversee Grandest Friends this year at the Benjamin School. 'Capturing the Moment' was a theme that I was so excited about. Having the Grandest Friends be able to take a picture and decorate their frame together was so special. Then, to be able to bring that beautifully framed picture home at the end of the event was priceless," said Ferry.
Seniors invited their grandest friends to join them for a catered lunch in Benjamin Hall. Grandparents and friends were treated to piano and musical numbers followed by a tour of the upper school campus.
