STEM Coordinator Joins Max Planck Internship Program

Middle School Science Teacher and STEM coordinator Matt Oster joined the Max Planck Florida Institute (MPFI) Summer Internship this June. The German based Max Planck Institute of Neuroscience is the number one non profit research center in the world. MPFI is the home of over 14,000 annual publications and 18 Nobel Prizes.

Matt Oster spent two weeks at the Jupiter Florida Max Planck Center this summer as part of the organization’s Teacher Internship Experience. He was one of three teachers chosen for the paid internship. 

The trio were embedded in MPFI four major core labs. They studied everything from immunostaining: the use of an antibody-based methods to detect a specific proteiss, to DNA cloning, and extensive electron microscopy. Oster and his group worked under Max Planck’s Head of Education Outreach Dr. Ilaria Drago and almost a dozen fellow research scientists.

Oster said he "feels grateful for the unparalleled experience and I am looking forward to bringing the cutting edge biotech knowledge back to Benjamin. As the STEM coordinator I am excited for future collaborative efforts between Dr. Drago, her colleagues at Max Planck, and The Benjamin School."
