Headstrong Guest Lecturers Speak To TBS Student Body

Benjamin high school and middle school students enjoyed guest lectures this week from members of Project Headstrong as part of the school’s cross-divisional community service collaboration with the organization. Headstrong is committed to the delivery of mental health services to the military-connected community and to increasing their access to equitable mental health care.

Dr. Amy Williams, Chief Clinical Officer at Headstrong, spoke to the middle school student body about the importance of mental health and offered tools and strategies for better processing emotions and reducing stress.

Upper school students heard from Headstrong CEO/ED Ryan Sparks (USMC Veteran) about the mental health challenges our nation’s veterans may face and the organization’s commitment to ameliorating these challenges and burdens.

Some additional projects that have already taken place, in conjunction with Headstrong, include the following:
  • The PK class and their talented teachers made beautiful placemats for the Thanksgiving meal trays of inpatients at the VA Hospital in Riviera Beach.
  • Grade 3 collected about 230 fun costumes that will be used at summer camps for children of veterans and members of the military.
  • Middle School advisory groups have been busy making cards and writing letters to servicemen and women.
  • Additional advisory groups collected items and made “We Care” packages which are distributed by the forgotten Soldiers Outreach in Lake Worth.
  • Upper School students provided support to the Fisher House in West Palm Beach, which houses veterans’ families while their family members are hospitalized at the VA Hospital.
