Congressman Tom Rooney Appointed To Benjamin’s Board of Trustees

Congressman Tom Rooney has been appointed to The Benjamin School’s Board of Trustees. Rooney, a graduate of Benjamin, located in North Palm Beach, Florida, will return to his hometown at the conclusion of his Congressional term. Rooney’s three sons Sean, Seamus and Tommy Jr. will join the Benjamin community as students in the Fall.

“I look forward to coming home to The Benjamin School, and I can offer no better testimonial to what TBS means to me than to place my children’s education in their hands,” Rooney says.

Rooney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008, where he served Florida’s 17th district. He sits on the House Appropriations Committee's Subcommittees on Agriculture, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and State and Foreign Operations. He is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and serves as Chairman of the Intelligence Subcommittee on Emerging Threats. He also serves as a Deputy Whip for the Majority.

NextEra’s Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Risk Officer Mark Sorensen, former Head of US Institutional Sales in Fixed Income and Securities for RBC Darren Lowe, philanthropist Lynda Jacobs, and Dr. Amy Zito, assistant Regional Dean for Student Services at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will also join Benjamin’s Board of Trustees in the Fall.

Board Chair Ari Zur says he looks forward to welcoming the five new trustees.

“These five individuals have been engaged parents and alumni in our community. We look forward to having them involved at a higher level as Trustees as they help us chart the future for Benjamin,” said Zur.
