Three TBS Alums Selected During MLB Draft

Three Benjamin alumni were drafted during the 2018 MLB Draft. Former Benjamin pitcher Bennett Sousa went to the Chicago White Sox in the 10th round. Sousa graduated from Benjamin in 2014 and is a recent graduate of The University of Virginia. Last year, he was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 34th round of the MLB Draft.

The Colorado Rockies drafted Isaiah Thomas with the 22nd pick in the 39th round. Thomas graduated from Benjamin in May and is signed to Vanderbilt. Thomas hit .490 with eight home runs as a senior at Benjamin. Thomas says it was a great feeling to be picked by the Rockies, but he's looking forward to his future experiences and growth at Vanderbilt.

Matt Harris, RHP, was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 33rd round. Harris is a graduate student at Florida Atlantic University.

“We are incredibly proud of the three student-athletes selected in the 2018 MLB draft. All had outstanding careers during their time at Benjamin, and the fact that the MLB recognized their abilities is no surprise. There are very few schools throughout the country that had three former student-athletes selected in the draft. It is a great credit to those individuals, their families, The Benjamin School and our baseball program,” said Benjamin’s Athletic Director Ryan Smith ‘93.
