Senior Nicole Vernis Named Sun Sentinel ‘Player Of The Year’

Senior Nicole Vernis, who is signed to the University of Florida, was named girls soccer player of the year by the Sun Sentinel. The midfielder told the Sentinel that it was a good and memorable season for the girls varsity team.

"The one thing that I hope people will remember me for is working hard and being a leader both on and off the field – being a motivator and being enthusiastic about what I am trying to achieve in the future,” Vernis told the SentinelShe also swam and ran track for Benjamin and was recruited by FSU, Virginia, and Vanderbilt, among others.

Emma Shirzad was named to the girls first team and Bella Craven, Emily Horgen and Logan McGruder received Honorable Mentions.

Ben Lubarsky was named to the Boys Basketball 6A-1A first team, with Marvel Allen receiving an Honorable Mention. Emma Laszewski was tapped for the 6A-1A girls basketball first team. Hanna Hilcoff and Deborrah Redmon received Honorable Mentions.

Christian Baldari made the second team for 3A-1A boys soccer and Nicholas Bechtold Bocanegra, Max Gelinas and Trevor Natalie received Honorable Mentions.
