Eighth Grade Hosts Annual Friendship Games

The Benjamin eighth grade class hosted the 16th annual Friendship Games on Friday, January 17. Students in exceptional education programs throughout the county were invited to Benjamin to enjoy the field day event. The program, offered in collaboration with the Special Olympics, featured track and field races, parachute games, face painting, and field hockey.

The heartwarming day, coordinated by Middle School English teacher Kathleen Devine, included a ceremonial “opening lap” around Reback Track; Benjamin students cheered on their guests as they travelled around the track and the games commenced.

Devine says the service project began 17 years ago with only 60 participants. This year’s event drew more than 450 special needs students from local schools.

Mrs. Devine was most impressed with the "love and generosity of spirit shown by our eight grade children."
