Divisions Enjoy Fall Celebrations Despite Unusual Year

Despite an unusual year, Benjamin students and faculty across all three divisions still enjoyed a variety of fall traditions and celebrations.

Pre-K3 ghouls and goblins kicked-off the festivities with their annual WOW parade on October 30. Students paraded around in their most fun, frightful, and fanciful Halloween costumes.

Lower School students paraded around the gymnasium, class by class, in an augmented Halloween parade. The parade has been a holiday staple in the lower school since the 1960’s when Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin would dress up and partake in the festivities. This year, due to COVID-19, the parade was live-streamed to parents, grandparents, and friends.

With the assistance of the School’s tv production crew, spectators enjoyed the live broadcast of the entire parade from the computer of their homes.

“With more than 400 families in the lower school, we wanted to make sure our families did not miss out on this beloved tradition despite the pandemic,” said MC and Chief Development Officer Juan Carlos Fanjul ‘93.

Rather than escorting the young Bucs around campus, “14-Year-Club” seniors produced videos of their favorite lower school Halloween memories to share with students.

Middle School students celebrated the holiday with their third annual “Buc-o-Ween,” founded by Middle School Academic Dean Chuck Maddox. They dressed in spirited orange and blue attire and undertook their twelfth-annual pumpkin decorating contest. This year, their pumpkins were donated to the non-profit organization Friends of Foster Children as part of the School’s community service outreach initiative.

The Upper School joined in the Halloween fun and participated in a costume contest.
