MS Newspaper, Yearbook Nominated For Prestigious Press Award

The middle school online newspaper The Neersyde and the middle school yearbook The Azimuth were both nominated for the prestigious Crown Award by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The publication, led by faculty advisor Nick Crisafi, previously received a Gold Crown in 2016-17. The award is the highest honor conferred by the association and is given in recognition of excellent design, photography, concept, coverage, and writing. Although both publications have won Crown Awards in the past, this is the first year they have been simultaneous recipients.

Crisafi said the nomination is a humbling honor and speaks to the excellent work done by his journalism staff.

I set the bar high for these students, but they not only always seem to reach it, they even go beyond. I am very blessed to work at TBS, a school which values the students' voices and allows us the resources to be the best news staff we can be. The fact that we have such strong journalism programs in both the Middle School and the Upper School - in print, web, and broadcast form - is a true testament to the quality of administrators, teachers, and students at The Benjamin School,” said Crisafi.

The CSPA will announce if The Neersyde receives a Gold or Silver Crown in March.
