Divisions Enjoy Festive Holiday Celebrations
Students across all three divisions enjoyed festive holiday celebrations and traditions leading up to the start of Winter Break.
Lower, middle, and upper school students participated in the School’s toy drive to benefit Friends Of Foster Children as part of an ongoing community service effort. All told, the School collected hundreds of toys for families in need.
Second grade students took a trip aboard the Polar Express during their annual celebration. Students donned their coziest pajamas and had their train ticket stamped by conductor Ms. Ball. Kindergarten students were hard at work traveling across campus with their teachers on a Gingerbread Man scavenger hunt. The eager detectives were in hot pursuit of the elusive Gingerbread Man. They were provided with clues along their quest from lower school teachers and Head of School Mr. Faus.
Meanwhile, Pre-Kindergarten students enjoyed camaraderie and a sweet treat during their annual holiday cookie decorating party.
Kindergarten students, directed by faculty member Kristina Arnn, performed their annual music program virtually. The talented young performers each played an important speaking or musical role in the annual holiday concert. The decades-old Benjamin tradition serves as a “kick-off” to Winter Break.
Library elves Danielle Griffis and Mindy Ruggiero, accompanied by The Buccaneer mascot, spread holiday cheer throughout the lower and middle school as they hand-delivered book orders to each classroom.
At the upper school, students and faculty enjoyed a variety of festivities including Holiday Sweater Day, a door decorating contest sponsored by Student Council, performances during the Backdoor Cafe, and the division’s annual holiday assembly.
The assembly tradition, started by upper school Science Department Chair Dr. James Haley in 2017, was continued in a virtual format this year.
“It’s important to sustain as many traditions as we can throughout this pandemic,” said Head of Upper School Fletcher Carr. “I hope more than anything we can spend next year’s assembly together in Benjamin Hall.”
