US Panel Speaks To Students About High School Transition
A select group of upper school students travelled to the Middle School the morning of January 8 to speak with the current eighth grade class about life at the upper school. Students answered questions in a panel format, addressing everything from leadership opportunities available at the upper school, to homework, elective options, and balancing school life.
The event served in lieu of traditional “shadow days” due to the pandemic.
Students spoke about how teachers accommodated them both in-person and online throughout the pandemic, and how grateful they were to be in a community with educators who cared about their success.
One student spoke about his experience at another high school in the area where he said he was “disappointed and surprised.”
“Some of the teachers weren’t trying to help you out or looking for you to succeed . . . here the teachers really care. They like what they do and they’re here to help you,” he said.
Senior Cole Jernstedt encouraged students to “put themselves out there” when they head to the upper school next Fall.
“Going from middle school to high school is hard for everyone, but the teachers are always there for you,” he said.
