8th Grade Celebrates 'Moving Up'

The class of 2025 celebrated their 8th grade graduation during an outdoor ceremony at the upper school on May 18. The open-air celebration ushered the Class of ‘25 into their next chapter as upper school students at The Benjamin School.

Head of Middle School Charles Hagy welcomed students and family members to the program.

“The last time I spoke in front of an audience was May 2019 - I must say it feels really good to be with you this evening,” Hagy told the audience. “It is with great joy that I welcome you here to honor our 8th grade students with an important tradition,” he said.

Hagy honored 82 graduating students, including a record number of 22 new students.

“A group that we have asked so much of this year, our 8th graders have risen to the challenge with both excellent character and impressive accomplishments,” said Hagy.

Hagy thanked the graduating class for their leadership in the middle school throughout a difficult year. He offered thanks in equal measure to the students’ parents for “trusting us with what’s most precious in life - your children.”

Student Council President Scott Noble offered his reflections on his time at Benjamin and his middle school experience while Chester Coles offered the evening’s invocation.

Head of School Dave Faus also spoke to the graduating class and thanked them for their leadership. Faus assured students that they have been well prepared for their transition to high school.

“My advice to you is to take full advantage of all The Benjamin School has to offer. The more you put in, the more you will get out of this experience,” said Faus.

Head of Upper School Fletcher Carr concluded the ceremony by formally welcoming the Class of 2025 to the upper school.
