Nicklaus Family Honored With Athletic Complex Naming

The Benjamin School honored former parents and longtime supporters of the School Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and their entire family with the unveiling of The Nicklaus Family Athletic Complex the morning of May 21.

The Nicklaus family has been part of Benjamin since the School’s inception in 1960 and has helped Benjamin grow from a small one-classroom school into the area’s premiere independent day school.

Jack, who was a long-time member of the School’s Board of Trustees, was also actively involved in the lives of his children while they attended Benjamin. Barbara was often seen volunteering on campus and started the BASH Gala in 1985 which continues to be the School's most important annual fundraiser.

Friends and family in attendance heard from Head of School Dave Faus, Board Chair Darren Lowe, and former coach and athletic director Ron Ream, who fondly remembers his time growing the School’s athletic program with the help of Nicklaus.

“There are Nicklaus footprints on all three campuses,” said Ream. “And next to the Benjamins, they are the cornerstone and foundation of our School.”

Head of School Dave Faus said the dedication was a small way to honor and say thank you to the Nicklaus family for their unwavering multi-generational support of the School.

“To watch what’s happened here and to honor us with this today is really very, very nice. We appreciate that very much,” said Jack.
