TBS Robotics Team Heads To World Championship

The Benjineers Robotics team will compete at the VEX World Championship in Dallas, Texas in May after a successful showing at Regionals on March 13. The team is currently ranked 9th in Florida and 229/4285 in the World.

“The team has competed in over 40 matches in the South Florida Region,” said faculty advisor and upper school engineering teacher Debra Perretta.

“Our individual team points and autonomous coding and driver skills helped us clinch the World Championship spot,” she said.

Only 14 teams in the School’s region were awarded a spot at Worlds, which will consist of 86 total teams.

The team is led by Ryan Riutta ‘22 and Jack Hilzerath ‘23 who competed for the second time in a VEX Regional Championship. Kate Hilzenrath ‘25, Ollie Olsson-White ‘25, and John Lacey ‘25 joined the team this year.

Perretta said the team also won the prestigious Judges Award at the iTech Titan VEX VRC Tournament on February 12.

“We are extremely grateful for this opportunity and can not wait to head to Texas!”
