Senior Bissell Named To Dairy Farmers All-State Team

Gerald Bissell ‘22 was named to the FHSAA’s 28th Annual Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team. Bissell, along with 23 other outstanding student-athletes across the state, was recognized for his excellence in both athletics and academics.

“We’re excited to support a program that has a great tradition of encouraging excellence on the field and in the classroom and we’re proud to support students that have the special mix of work ethic and determination required to succeed at both,” said Florida Dairy Farmers CEO Michele Cooper.

To be eligible for the award, students must be a graduating senior with a minimum 3.5 unweighted grade point average and earned a minimum of two varsity letters in at least two different sports during their junior and senior year.

Bissell has been a top scholar during his time at Benjamin; he’s a National Merit Finalist, a member of the Honor Council, National Honor Society, and Speech and Debate Team. He’s deeply committed to philanthropy and has dedicated his time to House of Hope and tutoring, earning over 100 hours of community service.

The four-year letterman in baseball and three-year letterman in bowling served as captain of both teams. Bissell plans to study electrical engineering at the University of Florida in the Fall.

Athletic Director Ryan Smith ‘93 said the entire Benjamin community is proud of Bissell for the honor.

“Gerald is at the top of his class academically while also being a deeply committed leader in baseball and bowling during his high school career. Gerald is an outstanding young man, very deserving of this prestigious award,” said Smith.

Bissell will be recognized at a banquet on Monday, June 6 where he will receive a $1,700 scholarship and medallion. He, along with the other 23 All-State Team members, will be considered for the Ronald N. Davis Scholar-Athletes of the Year Award, the FHSAA’s most prestigious honor bestowed upon a student-athlete.
