Lower school students have been “making spirits bright” at Benjamin this holiday season. This week, I enjoyed embarking on a magical journey to the North Pole with the second grade during their annual “Polar Express” morning.

This TBS tradition has become a favorite, as I get to put my acting chops to the test and take on the role of the affable conductor welcoming students to the magical polar express, punching their tickets, and whistling “all aboard,” before they travel to the Barker Center for hot cocoa and the film version of this beloved holiday classic.

Clad in their best pajamas, it’s a real treat to see the joy and sense of wonderment on our second graders’ faces.

Lower school Student Services counselor Sue Ball has also taken on an integral role in the morning, bringing extra magic to the event by adorning the halls with pictures of each students’ face riding along the imagined train.

This event wouldn’t be possible without our parent volunteers who help serve tasty cocoa and treats during the movie’s intermission.

I look forward to next week and all the exciting annual holiday events that are still to come!
