BTV, the upper school’s broadcast journalism program, was named one of the top 15 newscasts in the country by the National Scholastic Press Association. The Association will narrow the 15 finalists down to a winner in November.

“I can't express how proud I am of all our students who have taken part in the Benjamin Upper School's TV program. Their dedication and support of the program has proven anything is possible and the sky's the limit,” said faculty advisor Ken Archer.

"This recognition at a national level is a true honor. We have earned the best in Florida, and wanted to see how we stack up against the rest of the country. Knowing at the least, we are top 15 and possibly BEST in the Nation is exciting,” Archer said.

Laura Widmer, executive director of the Association says the Pacemaker competition is the association’s preeminent award and is “often called the Pulitzer Prize of scholastic journalism.”

Each school submitted three programs from the 2016-2017 school year to be judged.

The judges praised the overall quality of the entries: “The Pacemaker-winning entries stood out for their quality, not only in the production, but in the stories being told, the writing, editing and hosting, and the willingness to tackle controversial topics. These were exceptional newscasts start to finish.”
