Benjamin Students 'Fish for a Cure'

Benjamin high school students Sophie Smith and Corri Kirvin have created a junior angler division for this year’s Bluewater Babes Fish for a CureKirvin and Smith have been summer volunteers at Bluewater Babes headquarters and were impressed with how successful the fishing tournament was. The tournament, in its 9th year, raises money for local breast and ovarian cancer patients in financial need. The junior angler division allows girls age 13 to 18 to participate in the fishing event, held at Sailfish Marina on October 6-7.

“We wondered why it hadn’t opened up to kids our age. We live in the best community for fishing and there really isn’t a local teenage tournament,” said Kirvin.

Kirvin and Smith intend for their funds to go to the children or survivors of breast and ovarian cancer.
