Parents Undertake STEM Lesson During Curriculum Morning

Pre-K through grade 3 parents spent the morning of October 4 on campus for Lower School Curriculum Morning. The parents started their morning in The Barker Center, where Head of Lower School Dr. Kristen Sheehan introduced the morning’s program. Science Coordinator Susan Bickel spoke to families about STEM education and how it takes place both in the science lab and in the individual classroom. Lower School Academic Dean LeeAnne Sampson shared a short video featuring snippets of students working on STEM activities throughout the grades. Parents then travelled to their children’s classrooms where they participated in a STEM activity.

“STEM is important for today's students because STEM activities are active and focus on a student-centered learning environment. Students engage in questioning, problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real-life issues,” said Sheehan.
