Pre-K Makes Thanksgiving Placemats For Local Veterans

The Pre-Kindergarten class, lead by teacher Joanie Garrettson, crafted Thanksgiving placemats for veterans who will be in the hospital over the Thanksgiving holiday. The project was the brainchild of Director of Student Services Susan Poncy, who thought it would be a great idea to have the students actively engaged in their project by drawing the placemats.

Dr. Bijal Asrani, a physician at the Veterans Hospital in West Palm Beach and mother of pre-kindergarten student Nikhil Asrani will be delivering the placemats to the vets. Each student created two placemats, for a total of 88 placemats to be distributed to our nation’s veterans.

“The pre-kindergarten students truly engaged in this project and understood its purpose. Teachers presented the project to the students discussing what a veteran is in a developmentally appropriate way. This project ties in with the pre-kindergarten curriculum of learning about our country.  Each school day the students respectfully recite the Pledge of Allegiance and learn a number of patriotic music pieces throughout the school year,” said Garrettson.
