Eighth Graders Host 16th Annual 'Friendship Games'

Kindness. Compassion. Acceptance. They’re not just a triad of The Benjamin School’s “12 Values” but actively embodied through a variety of service initiatives, especially the annual Friendship games hosted by the eighth grade class.

Dozens of students in exceptional education programs throughout the Palm Beach County area were invited to the Upper School for the annual games on Friday, January 26. The heartwarming day, coordinated by Middle School English teacher Kathleen Devine, included field day events and a ceremonial lap around Reback Track.

Devine says the service project is the best day of the year for the class.

Benjamin eighth graders cheered on their guests, ran races with them, and helped with face painting, ball tosses and crafting. Scattered across Theofilos Field were over 400 exceptional local students, enjoying a special outing with their parents and caregivers.

Devine says the event started 16 years ago, with only 60 participants and has since grown into something much larger, with a potential partnership with the Special Olympics of Florida in motion.
