Lower School

Aftercare

Students go to the Aftercare room at the end of the school day. A simple snack is provided. Some of the planned activities include: arts and crafts, board games, puzzles, computers, movies, outdoor play, reading, and a supervised homework and study time.

Aftercare operates from dismissal to 5:45 p.m. on full class days.

Clubs and Enrichment

The clubs and enrichment portion of ACE is an alternative and supplement to our Aftercare Program. In our clubs, intramurals and enrichment classes your child will have the opportunity to explore and develop a variety of new interests. All classes are presented in a fun and skill building environment. A variety of clubs, intramurals and enrichment classes are offered each quarter of the school year. Each activity will meet one afternoon each week for 8 weeks, unless noted otherwise. The programs are organized and developed for specific grade levels, as listed below.   • Art Club: Grades 2-5

    Art Club students meet in the art room for one hour after school one afternoon each week for eight weeks. Two sessions are offered, one for grades 2-3 and one for grades 4-5. The students use traditional natural media and contemporary recycled materials to create environmentally relevant works. It is amazing what can be done to create recycled art projects with some simple reused materials. A whole world is waiting to be made!  Creativity + Stuff = Wonder!!
  • Basketball: Grades 1-5

    Basketball is brought to The Benjamin School by Fired Up Youth Sports. An educational basketball program includes drills, games and lots of fun! Each student receives proper exercise and learns the game of basketball in its entirety.
  • Chess: Grades 1-5

    Chess is offered to the beginning chess player, as well as the chess wizard! No previous knowledge of chess necessary. All equipment is supplied by Chess America. Each class consists of a fun, interactive learning period followed by supervised game play. Chess is the ultimate game of strategy and is perfect for students looking for some competitive fun. The power to see into the future and see anywhere from two to 10 moves ahead in a game of chess allows students to think before acting, an important life skill.
  • Computer Gaming: Grades 4-5

    Computer Gaming students build their own computer games with Gamestar Mechanic. Through Quest, Workshop, and Game Alley students play, fix, and design games of their own. Students learn how to edit games, change games and play the games they have created!
  • Cooking: Grades PK4 - 5

    Cooking students cook up fun, exciting and delicious recipes. Calling all chefs!  Fun Chefs Cooking Academy is coming to TBS. Each class learns the art of cooking along with lessons in culinary geography, nutrition, math and etiquette. Students also create some holiday themed dishes. All food allergies are taken into consideration.
    Two sessions are offered, one for grades PK4-K and one for grades 1-5.
  • Dance Club: Grades 2-5

    Dance Club is for boys and girls who are looking to move their feet! Students are introduced to dance technique in jazz and hip-hop. The class includes a warm-up, across the floor technique, center practice, and choreography. No dance shoes necessary, just wear comfortable clothes and a smile.
  • Drama Club: Grades PK4 - 5

    New York City’s Award-Winning Improvisation and Acting School for kids, Red Carpet Improv, is excited to offer their introductory class, which teaches children how to hone their creativity! Through games, sketches, and scenes, students boost their self-confidence, invigorate their imagination and laugh their way throughout this fun-filled creativity-building class. Perfect for all types of students looking to build new skills!
    Two sessions are offered, one for grades PK4-K and one for grades 1-5.
  • First Tee: Grades 3-5

    First Tee is designed around teaching young people the game of golf, as well as helping them understand and ultimately develop The First Tee Nine Core Values (honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment) and The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits. In the First Tee curriculum, golf and life lessons are seamlessly incorporated into each experience. Importantly, while learning a love for the game, students have a FUN time! Students do not need to bring their own clubs or equipment. Classes are conducted by LPGA, Ms. Capanegra.
  • Flag Football: Grades 3-5

    Flag Football is brought to The Benjamin School by Fired Up Athletic Force. Fired Up instructors educate student with drills and games so each child learns how to play individually, as well as with a team. They learn how to play positions and the rules of the game. Traning exercises make them faster and stronger!
  • French Club: Grades 1-5

    French Club students meet for one hour after school one afternoon each week for eight weeks. Bienvenue! Bonjour les amis! Activities include games, French music, delicious French treats and a holiday celebration. A Bientot!
  • Fun Chefs: Grades K-5

    Fun Chefs "Cooking Around the World" students cook their way around the world, creating fun, exciting and delicious recipes from across the globe. During each class students learn the art of cooking along with lessons in culinary geography, nutrition and etiquette.
  • Golf Club: Grades K-2

    Golf Club is brought to The Benjamin School by the historic PGA National. Their staff of professionals provide elite golf instruction covering the basic fundamentals, as well as refined technique to various ages and skill levels. Weekly games are conducted to challenge and motivate in a fun and safe learning environment, highlighted by the nationally popular game Kwik Golf. Clubs and equipment are provided, but we encourage all participants to bring their own bag and clubs to master their craft with their own tools.
  • Jewelry Making: Grades K-2

    Jewelry Making students learn some basic jewelry techniques and make new friends. Students learn new skills such as seed beading, basic bead stringing, wire working and glass beading. Jewelry making has become a popular art and craft, so come join us for some jewelry fun!
  • Karate: Grades PK4 - 3

    Karate is taught by Legacy Mixed Martial Arts right here at TBS! Their dynamic program teaches life-saving self-defence techniques while instilling self respect and confidence in the children. Learn from some of the best martial arts instructors what it means to be a disciplined martial artist, while having fun at the same time.
    Two sessions are offered, one for grades PK4-K and one for grades 1-3.
  • KinderARTen: Grade K

    KinderARTen students explore elements and principles of art, creating with different mediums and making beautiful artwork.
  • Lacrosse: Boys Grades 2-3

    Lacrosse students have a chance to learn the basics and show off their lacrosse skills. Students should bring cleats or sneakers, mouth guard, helmet, gloves, shoulder and elbow pads, change of clothes, and a water bottle.
  • LEGO Robotics: Grades 2-4

    LEGO Robotics students create working models of amazing machines like a float plane simulator, or a wild animal like a hungry gator, or maybe even a pair of zany, singing parrots. During these workshops, students build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors, connect them to a portable computer and then bring their machines to life.
  • Mad Science: Grades K-5

    Mad Science students touch, see, hear, smell and taste what science is really all about! Students engage in exciting interactive, and educational hands-on activities that instill a clearer understanding of science and how it affects the world around them, all while having fun. On their way to becoming "Mad Scientists," each week students take home a different science project such as slime, rockets, rocketry and sonic sounds.
  • My Gym Mobile - Whiz Kids: Grades PK4-K

    My Gym Mobile: Whiz Kids is designed to prepare a child for group sports and instill a sense of confidence in connection with physical activity. The children refine and master gross motor skills such as running, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing, kicking and catching. They build strength, balance, agility, flexibility and coordination as the instructors maintain a positive, supportive and non-competitive atmosphere. Whiz Kids are showered with praise as they develop perseverance and self-control.
  • Robotics Discovery: Grades 1-3

    Robotics Discovery allows young future engineers to create working models of amazing machines and creatures. Students build LEGO models featuring working pulleys, gears, motors and sensors, connect them to a portable computer and then use student-friendly programming code to bring their imaginative creatures to life. These activities are designed to help students develop important 21st century skills through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities around Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
  • Soccer: Grades 1-3

    Game on! Soccer club focuses on teaching the basic fundamentals of soccer through games and activities. The students have fun and get excited about the game of soccer. Participants learn individual skill and teamwork. A change of clothes, knee pads and socks are recommended. No cleats, please.
  • Spanish: Grades 2-5

    Spanish enables students to experience the sights and sounds of the Hispanic culture by creating arts and crafts, learning songs and dances, and exploring different celebrations and traditions with Ms. Garcia and Mrs. Zuniga.
  • Spelling Club: Grades 4-5

    Spelling club allows students to have fun with words, as well as helps prepare them for our spelling bee in the spring.
  • Strength & Conditioning: Grades 3-5

    Strength & Conditioning students increase their quickness, build muscle and increase their stamina, preparing them to be future Buc student-athletes. This morning club includes obstacles and competitions. Students may wear PE or athletic clothing. 
  • Woodworking: Grades PK4 - 5

    Woodworking students take a homemade project home every class. Versatility, creativity and choices galore!! Enrich your child's life with the "lost trade" of woodworking. Learn basic woodworking skills while making a useable "in home" project. Students have fun while tuning their communication and listening skills, fine motor abilities, self-esteem and pride. No pre-bought kits, all projects are originals and handmade.
    Two sessions are offered, one for grades PK4-K and one for grades 1-5.
  • World Percussion: Grades 1-5

    World Percussion students have the opportunity to play drums and percussion instruments from many diverse cultures around the world. They have fun while playing music and developing essential life skills such as deep listening, self-expression, cooperation, public presentation, and problem solving. They play traditional rhythms and create their own music. Every member of the circle is empowered to develop a strong sense of self-esteem and respect while having a great time playing music with their peers. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to perform in a showcase for their friends and families.
  • Writing - Secret Scrib's Society: Grades 1-2

    Writing - Secret Scribe's Society members meet with other authors to create, share and learn skills and strategies for growing as writers. This club meets twice a week.
  • Yoga: Grades PK4 - 5

    PK4 & K Yoga students engage in non-competitive games introducing yoga poses, interactive story telling incorporating the yoga poses and exercises encouraging team work. The exercises and activities practiced in this program are designed to build strength and flexibility, improve concentration and focus, cultivate improvisation and creative expression, as well as teach compassion and cultivate self-esteem. No mat or exercise attire necessary.

    Yoga students in grades 1-5 engage in acroyoga, arm balances, headstands and handstands, as well as meditation. Using teamwork in these activities, we hone our focus and learn the skill of patience. Please bring yoga mat, change of clothes and water.
  • Zumba/Hip-Hop: Grades PK4-5

    Zumba / Hip Hop enrichment class is EASY, FUN and EFFECTIVE, and kids have so much fun that they won't even realize they are exercising! It is never too early to incorporate habits of a healthy lifestyle. The class combines the innovative dance styles of Zumba and Hip Hop set to popular music to ensure the kids are moving and grooving. When taken together, they provide a venue for and encourage self-expression, social interaction and multicultural understanding. Watch Our Video
Aftercare, Clubs and Enrichment Programs (ACE) are offered to families with children enrolled in grades PreK-3 through 5. It is designed to be a convenient and helpful service to our parents and fun for our young students.
