School Paper Wins Scholastic Press Award

The Benjamin School’s upper school newspaper The Pharcyde and news site thepharcyte.com was awarded a Silver Medal by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

Judges critiqued the paper’s work during the 2020-2021 school year and applauded the student paper for its clean design, dominant images, and companion website.

The paper has tackled a wide range of topics from the lunch system, to how to acknowledge top scholars, and the role of diversity in the school.

Head of School Dave Faus applauded the paper and advisor Dr. John Peruggia for their hard work and dedication to student journalism.

“The Pharcyde is an invaluable news source for the upper school and our broader school community. I am so proud of this talented group of young journalists for their hard work and dedication, which is so evident in the quality of the paper they produce. I look forward to each new issue of the paper and to witnessing its continued evolution,” said Faus.
