Benjamin Community Embraces Spirit of Giving

Marti Lotman
The Benjamin community was full of thanks this fall and embraced a giving spirit, as all three divisions undertook numerous school-wide community service initiatives to benefit Lake Park Elementary School.

Benjamin lower school students collected close to four thousand pounds of food for Lake Park students and their families, while the senior class donated Thanksgiving meals to the maintenance staff at Lake Park. Our third graders collected an astounding 221 costumes which will be used by Lake Park’s music and drama department. Benjamin’s administrative team donated 500 children’s books and Benjamin moms donated close to 100 pairs of much needed socks and underwear.

“What has been done in just a couple of short months speaks volumes about the generous spirit of our school community,” said Director of Student Services Susan Poncy.

“The principal at Lake Park is extremely appreciative. I, too, am grateful for the influence that being part of such a benevolent and caring school has upon our own students.”

Benjamin parents also got in the giving spirit. Mr. and Mrs. Gelnaw, whose sons Colin and Brendan are in the second grade, donated a collectable Hess truck collection, dating back to 1960, to Benjamin's Toys for Tots drive.

The next project to benefit Benjamin’s 2016-17 school-wide community service partnership is the annual Holiday Toy Drive, which runs from November 29 through December 13. The School will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for elementary school children, ages five through 12. Toys can be dropped off at both the blue and polka dot morning car lines, or brought to the office and placed under the tree.
