Music Students Shine In Winter Festival

Marti Lotman
Music students from all three divisions proudly presented the Winter Music Festival to an excited crowd of Benjamin parents and families in Benjamin Hall. The festival included performances by the Lower School String Ensemble, Middle School Performance Ensemble, Honor Band, String Ensemble and Musical Theater Chorus, Upper School Concert Band, Chamber Ensemble and Chorus and The Dazzlers.

The performances were led by conductors Dr. Nicholas Lockey, Bruce Huber, Belen Clifford, Andrew Winters and Dazzlers director Sarah Salivar. Musical selections ranged from Mozart and Tchaikovsky to German Folk Songs and Hannukah children’s songs.

"It was quite a successful performance.  In every ensemble, the students rose to the challenges that the music directors set for them.  We, the performers and teachers, thank all of the families for their support,” Dr. Nicholas Lockey said.

Performing Arts Department Chair Sara Salivar said it was a great evening of music and a wonderful way to begin the holiday season.

"The students, especially, were so poised and well-prepared.  Their excitement was contagious backstage! I am so impressed with how the music program continues to grow every year.  We are lucky to have such talented faculty and students."

Student athletes served as ushers at the program in a continued effort to integrate and support both the arts and athletics at Benjamin.
