School-wide Community Service Update

Susan Poncy
The following is an update on The Benjamin School's school-wide community service partnership with Lake Park Elementary written by Director of Student Services Susan Poncy.

It is in the holiday spirit that I write another update on Benjamin's school-wide community service collaboration with Lake Park Elementary. Our annual toy drive started right after we returned from Thanksgiving break. I am so pleased to be able to announce that between the Lower and Middle divisions, well over 800 beautiful toys were delivered to Lake Park School on Wednesday, December 14. The benevolence of our school community is boundless and I sincerely thank all of you who so generously contributed to this important effort. It is heartwarming to see how many from our school community stepped forward to make a project of this magnitude possible.  We had a donation of hundreds of wonderful Hess trucks from the Gelnaws, a lower school family, to be included with Benjamin's other donations.

We never could have accomplished this project without the help of our Maintenance Department. Glenda Donato deserves special recognition for counting the toys, boxing and storing them, and so much more. Middle school parent Rob Schenk picked up all the toys in his truck and delivered them to Lake Park. Thank you to these people, to the teachers, students and parents who all came together to help make the Lake Park students' holiday a little brighter.

Additionally, the teachers at Lake Park Elementary have been invited to attend Benjamin's professional development day on January 3. We invited them to attend subject area and non-subject area elective workshops with our faculty members and to join us for lunch. We are hopeful that the opportunity to attend trainings with teachers from our partner school will prove to be an educational and enjoyable day for all of us.

It is amazing to see the extraordinary results when The Benjamin School comes together as a whole to positively impact our community. Thank you for all you've done. I wish each of you a wonderful and joyous holiday season.
