Middle School Robotics Team Captures Top Honor in First Season
Benjamin’s newly formed middle school robotics team earned the prestigious Excellence Award at their first robotics competition this past weekend.
The team, “T-Vex,” competed at the VEX IQ Mrs. Philosophers Invitational, hosted at Don Estridge High Tech Middle School in Boca Raton, Florida. Sixteen schools from across South Florida competed at the event, making the win especially notable for a program in its inaugural year.
“The Excellence Award is the highest honor presented at VEX competitions. It recognizes teams that demonstrate exceptional performance across multiple areas, including robot design and challenges, engineering documentation, team interviews, and sportsmanship,” said middle school science and robotics teacher Mr. Michael Saccone.
Saccone said the school’s robotics program challenges students to “collaborate as a team while developing real-world skills in coding, engineering, and problem-solving.”
“It has been incredibly rewarding to watch the next generation of engineers grow in confidence as they apply these skills to authentic challenges,” he said.
With momentum from this impressive debut, the team now looks ahead to the VEX IQ State Championship in Miami later this spring.
