From the "
Story Cottage" for our youngest students to the computer stations, and digital card catalog that serve our researchers in grades 3-8, the Lower/Middle School Library is a welcoming and inspiring experience for our students. Our goal is to provide a quiet space for reading, independent study, research, and learning.
In the lower grades, children are taught the basic skills of library organization, the Dewey Decimal System, using computers wisely for reports and projects, and using the digital catalog to find resources on the shelves. Students in grades Pre-K through 3 participate in the Florida Children's Book Award Program with a reading incentive curriculum that encourages children to read at home each night. At the end of the year, top readers and top classes receive a special treat!
Middle School students visit the library with their classes or on their own for independent research using web links and printed materials. By encouraging good academic standards, we know that they are ready to enter Upper School with a strong background in research methods, documentation, and an understanding of library materials. The library has 12 touch-screen computers, a portable SmartBoard and student-friendly weblinks on the library website.
