Benjamin has been crowned the overall Class 2A winner of the 2025-26 Floyd E. Lay Sunshine Cup All-Sports Award for the second year in a row. The prestigious honor recognizes Buccaneer athletics for success across multiple sports throughout the year.

“The FHSAA Sunshine Cup Award is a reflection of The Benjamin School’s commitment to excellence in athletics at the highest level,” said Athletic Director Ryan Smith ‘93.

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) announced the completed standings Monday, with Benjamin earning the top spot in Class 2A. The Sunshine Cup All-Sports Awards honor schools based on their performance in FHSAA State Series competition across the sports in which they compete.

Smith said the award both recognizes and validates the “tremendous commitment, hard work, and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff.”

Points are awarded according to how far a school's teams advance in state competition, with the state champion receiving 20 points, the state runner-up receiving 12, state semifinalists earning 9, teams finishing fifth through eighth earning 6, and ninth through 16th earning 3 points. Schools can also earn an additional two points for winning a district or regional championship.

“At Benjamin, we strive to be Nulli Secundus — second to none — in everything we do. This award is a tremendous reflection of that commitment and the collective effort of everyone who contributes to our athletic programs' success. It is an even greater honor and privilege to receive this recognition for the second consecutive year,” said Smith.

Benjamin was one of eight schools to win their division, joining Winter Park in Class 7A, St. Thomas Aquinas in Class 6A, Ponte Vedra in Class 5A, Bishop Moore in Class 4A, Bolles in Class 3A, Victory Christian in Class 1A and Williston in Class 1R.

The award adds to an already impressive list of accolades for the program, including the FACA 2025-26 Class 2A Carey McDonald Award for the “Athletic Program of the Year."
