Bodstrom Family Student Union Opens at Upper School

The Benjamin School community celebrated the opening of the Bodstrom Family Student Union with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Upper School campus, marking another significant milestone in the school’s Boundless Capital Campaign.

The new facility will provide students and faculty with a dedicated dining facility, expanded classroom facilities, and a gathering place designed to bring the community together.

“For decades, our students braved the elements during rainy lunch periods while parents faced the endless daily chore of packing lunch boxes, but the new Bodstrom Family Student Union officially leaves those challenges in the past,” said Head of School Dave Faus. “More than just a dining hall providing healthy meals, this beautiful facility serves as the vibrant new heartbeat of our campus.”

In addition to offering a welcoming dining area, the building expands the school’s academic footprint with new classrooms upstairs and provides a community space large enough to accommodate an entire grade level. The facility will also introduce a new dining experience, with kitchen staff scheduled to begin preparing meals for students and faculty in January.

Faus recognized the many individuals and families whose generosity and dedication helped bring the project from an initial vision to reality. He offered special thanks to the Bodstrom family for their longstanding commitment to the school.

He also acknowledged the Smith, Atkins, and Narlinger families for their generosity and continued support, as well as the school’s Board of Trustees for championing the Boundless Capital Campaign and investing in projects that will strengthen the school for generations to come.

The project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of PBK Architects, AMC Construction, Zabek and Associates, Urban Design Studio, Civil Design, JLRD and MC Engineers. Faus also recognized Leslie Downs, Ryan Gallagher, Dan Merrill and the entire facilities team for their tireless work throughout the process.

“It really feels like a new era of Benjamin is here,” Faus said.
