Our Theme

Sapir - Whorf is a theory that suggests that the choice of words particular to any language directly affect the experience of native speakers. In Mayim Bialik's YouTube Posting "Girl Versus Woman" she discusses the effect on women of calling them "girls." Likewise, the careful choice of diction by an author in the first paragraph of a novel can set the mood irrevocably and powerfully. TEDxTheBenjaminSchool invites our speakers this year to consider both the importance of ideas worth spreading and the specific words we use to spread those ideas.

Join us for a day of stimulating TEDx talks delivered by The Benjamin School students and elite adult guest speakers on Saturday, April 21, 2018 beginning at 9 a.m. in Benjamin Hall. Enjoy lunch and interactive audience participation opportunities ! Join our flash mob, play with life size Legos, and break a Guinness World record! Most of all, hear countless ideas worth spreading!

What is TED?

TED (Technology Entertainment Design) is a non profit, global conference and online driven platform where people from around the world present short (no longer than 18 minute) talks on ideas worth spreading which are then posted online. Similarly, TEDx is an opportunity TED offers communities and schools to put on their own independently licensed TED event featuring their own community’s speakers.
