  • Olympic Academic Learning Projects

In the month preceding the Olympics the classes spend time learning and exploring the wonders of their country. The link to Academic Learning Projects highlights some of the items your child will encounter in each grade.

What began as an educational endeavor starting in 1990 by former head of school Peter Graham and Assistant Director of Athletics Steve Hamel, has grown into an event that takes on the true characteristics of the Olympic spirit; exemplifying friendship, solidarity, and fair play. Each classroom in grades 1 through 5 adopts a country and studies its customs and culture. The Benjamin Olympic Day is the culmination of the studies in which each class represents its adopted country, yielding an athletic event spirited with competition among the represented nations. The Olympic Day celebration is the fulfillment of a month long multicultural study that enables all of us to see the importance of understanding and appreciating the rich cultures and diverse perspectives that are found within our world.
