COVID-19 Update 10/09/2020

Dear Members of The Benjamin School Community,

I continue to be impressed by how our students, families, and teachers are managing with the new health and safety protocols this school year. At the Upper School this week, the Student Council found a creative way to bring fun and safe activities to the school community for Spirit Week. In the Lower and Middle Schools, it’s nice to see the rhythm of the fall semester settling in on campus.

I want to assure you that despite evolving guidelines from our local and national government, the protocols established in the School’s Re-Entry Plan are still in place and will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

The CDC, in guidance provided directly to schools, recommends five key mitigation strategies to ensure the lowest risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools:
  • Consistent and correct use of masks
  • Social distancing to the largest extent possible
  • Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Contact tracing in collaboration with the local health department
We will continue to follow these mitigation measures to keep our community as safe and healthy as possible. Despite stringent adherence to recommended mitigation measures, cases of COVID-19 may still occur in a school community among students, teachers, administrators, and other staff. Due to the nature of COVID-19 transmission, the School does not plan to relax adherence to these measures even as our local community moves into Stage 3 of reopening. As we have seen around the world, there are likely to be peaks and valleys in the local community throughout this academic year.

The COVID-19 dashboard has been updated for the current week and is available on the resource board in BucLinks. As a reminder, this chart reflects new positive COVID-19 test results in students, faculty, and staff as reported to the School each week.

Thank you for helping us navigate an academic year like none other in the history of The Benjamin School and for joining our continued commitment to making health a foundational priority for our entire school community.

Sincerely,
David C. Faus
