COVID-19 Update 3/2/2020

Dear Members of The Benjamin School Community,

I am sure many of you have seen Governor DeSantis’s announcement of two “presumptive positive” cases of CORVID-19 on the Florida Gulf Coast. As we continue to monitor developments, we remind all of the increased need to follow the recommended preventive measures:

- If you are sick, stay home from school.
- Avoid close contact with those who are already sick.
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing with a tissue or the crook of your arm.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth.

We also have taken two additional steps. As mentioned previously, we will create a plan allowing us to continue instruction should a school closing be required. The Division Heads have been working on it and will finalize it tomorrow. We want to confirm all aspects of the plan with our Technology Team to ensure the clearest and most efficient delivery and response system for instruction and assignments. Then, we hope we can set the plan aside and never have need to put it into action.

The other step we have taken is to set up a team for a daily meeting to review news, communications, and developments on this matter. This group will coordinate, in conjunction with local, state, and federal recommendations, our responses and communications and share updates with you on a regular basis.

As noted above, our hope is that this is all simply an exercise of caution. Nevertheless, while avoiding over-reaction, we want to be well prepared to respond to concerns and fast-moving developments while keeping everyone in our care as safe and healthy as possible.

Sincerely,
Thomas J. Reid
