COVID-19 Update 3/4/2020

Dear Members of the School Community,

We are continuing to monitor updates with regard to COVID-19, and as mentioned earlier this week, are holding daily meetings to discuss the evolving situation. We are aware that many people in our community have plans to travel within the US and internationally in the coming weeks, including during Spring Break. It is important for travelers to consider potential exposure to COVID-19 and to review the latest travel advisories from the CDC.

While it is not customary for the School to issue travel restrictions, we want to alert you to a decision the administration has made with regard to travel. The School will continue to follow the CDC’s travel guidelines and is adopting a new policy effective immediately.

All Benjamin students and staff returning from a country designated with a Level 3 or 4 travel notice or having had contact with someone who has visited those countries must:
  • Self-report your travel to the Head of School’s office or through our online form
  • Self-monitor for symptoms
  • Self-quarantine, and not return to campus for at least 14 days; return to campus will require a letter from a physician
Those returning from countries designated with a Level 2 travel notice should be aware that this situation is changing rapidly. I urge you to closely monitor travel.state.gov and cdc.gov for updates

The administration has finalized plans for remote learning should the situation progress to campus closures. In the meantime, our teachers, staff, and facilities team, together with our professional cleaning crew, have increased efforts to disinfect and sanitize campus. As we continue to emphasize, the best way to minimize the spread of infectious diseases is to follow basic rules of hygiene:
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
  • Stay home when you are sick
At the time of this notice, the CDC still estimates the risk level in our country to be low. Please know that this abundance of caution has the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families as the top priority. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,
Thomas J. Reid
