Educator Koree Hood Presents Inclusion Lecture To Faculty
Former teacher and empathy educator Koree Hood spent the morning of August 13 speaking to Benjamin teachers and faculty about the importance of identity and inclusion. Hood emphasized how connections may be missed with people because we don’t understand them.
“Often, this stems from stereotypes. The only way to really know people is to listen to them because people’s identities can be multifaceted,” said Hood.
Faculty and staff were given the opportunity to participate in a one-on-one exercise where they gained greater understanding of their colleagues identity: what is important to them, what makes them happy or proud, and what they want in the future. Hood also discussed the importance of making empathetic connections with students so they feel valued and seen for all facets of their identity.
Hood said that he felt an immediate warmth from the educators in attendance and could feel that empathy and inclusion were already an integral part of the School’s culture.
“You already have the recipe - I’m just providing some seasoning.”
