Freshmen Perform For Local Senior Citizens
Freshmen students performed in the third annual “Freshmen Got Talent” event October 10 in Benjamin Hall for an audience of senior citizens from local retirement communities. The seniors were treated to a variety of performances from the talented group of freshmen.
Upper school science teacher Amanda Pierman, who organized the event, said the class enjoyed afternoon tea and intergenerational conversations with their guests.
“The guests all commented on how delightful and talented our Freshman Class is,” said Pierman.
Emeline Smith and Matthew Postman MC’ed the event and introduced talented freshmen artists. Freshman Emma Hardyman, new to Benjamin this year, performed two numbers in the program that opened and closed the show. Hardyman opened the program with “Scared to be Lonely” by Dua Lipa while playing guitar. Her rendition of Chandelier by Sia, featuring Hardyman singing while playing piano, closed the program.
Hardyman said she has loved to sing ever since she was young. She started playing guitar in fifth grade and piano in seventh and has “been in love ever since.”
“I was definitely nervous about performing in Benjamin hall, but it was a great experience. I was beyond happy to perform in front of everyone there, especially as my first time. Since I came from another school, I didn’t really know many people here but the transition has been great. Everyone is so sweet and the teachers are extremely helpful,” said Hardyman.
