AP History Students Attend ‘New Year’s Eve’ Dinner Party

AP European History and AP World History students journeyed back in time to attend a 1090 “New Year’s Eve” dinner party in Benjamin Hall on December 11. Students dressed as historical figures they have been studying for the occasion.

Each student, donned in period garb, represented the historical figure they had been studying over the course of the semester. Students researched their figure’s viewpoint on politics, religion, war, and nationalism.

Upper School history teacher Ms. Caroline Guzman said the experience allowed students to study point of view in the context of a vital time period in world history. Guzman said students prepared questions for the dinner party to help guide their interactions and conversations with other guests.

Guzman said she is proud of the great debates and discussions she witnessed between historical families and rivalries. Students will write a comparative essay as a culmination of the project.
