Benji The Sea Turtle Begins Her Journey

The newest member of the Benjamin community, Benji the sea turtle, has begun her journey on the nesting beaches adjacent to The Benjamin Lower School. The loggerhead turtle was satellite tagged on April 18 by the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

The tracking data from the turtle, named in honor of Benjamin School co-founder Marshall Benjamin, will be used in various ongoing research projects being conducted by the Research Department at LMC.

Benjamin Middle School students will also analyze Benji’s tracking data as part of their science curriculum. This first-hand educational resource will provide students the unique opportunity of working with real-world scientific data. Benji has laid three nests this season and may lay her fourth as early as next week.

All work was performed under Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission permit MTP-205. These maps do not constitute publication. All maps and data may not be used or referenced without expressed written consent from LMC.
